How A Good Dog Boarding Should Be Run

In a typical well-run dog boarding or kernel facility, the way dogs play and interact with others are very crucial to be understood.

Most people believe that the size of a dog is a major determining factor to consider before pairing two dogs together. They believe that huge dogs cannot play together with smaller ones. But the fact is that there is nothing wrong in allowing different dogs of different sizes to play together or form same play group in a dog kernel facility.

However, one caveat to this assertion is that the style of play of a particular dog is different from another type. This is a factor that need to be seriously considered in a dog boarding daycare unit. Style of play is important just as the number of dogs that will be in a play group is also very crucial. A small group of two dogs for example will give every dog an opportunity to quickly influence its natural and normal play style with the other dog.

If such dog is now placed in a larger group, there is every tendency of it forgetting its play style completely while it simply adopts that of the larger group.

It is therefore important for dog behavior consultant or dog trainer to observe how some dogs kept in a pet boarding facility behave and play with others. Some of them will rather exhibit different play styles during different situations and circumstances. Their ways of interaction will depend on.

a.       The number of dogs that are around.

b.      The play style of other dogs.

c.       The size of other dogs.

d.      Comfort level of the dog and so on.

Some dogs are called cheerleaders because of their play style. They are always seen at the height of every action. Cheerleaders are those dogs that usually bark incessantly. They may be running around other dogs but are yet not participating in real action of the group. Cheerleaders are known to nip occasionally when they are in a dog boarding facility.
