Gas Heater or Electric Room Heater – Which to Buy?

Autumn is now over. The trees have started shedding leaves and are getting ready for the biting winter. Animals are moving to warmer places and many birds migrate thousands of miles down south in search of warmer pastures. As far as human beings are concerned, we are getting ready to face the winter season by checking on the insulation of our homes. In case there is no insulation, we may go in for new ones. Further, we also will spend money on repairing our existing water heaters or make the fire place ready. There are different types of room heaters and electric wall heaters are considered to be popular. Many also go in for gas heaters. Many of us often ask the question as to which is a better buy, gas room heaters or an electric heater? Let us spend some time trying to find answers to the same.
Electric Heaters Are Suited for Indoor Use
If you are looking for a compact wall heater for your home, then electric heaters could be the right choice. They use around 1,500 watts of electricity and are capable of converting electrical energy into heat form. They are capable of providing warmth that is focused and concentrated and they may not be able to heat the entire room. You could choose between radiant and convection types of electric heaters.
They Are Not Very Expensive
If you are looking for a cost effective room heating solution then electric heaters are considered to be the best. By spending around $100, you will be able to get a reasonably good electric room heater that can be sufficient for a room of around 150 square feet with three to four people in it.
What about Gas Heaters?
On the other hand gas heaters are considered to be the ideal option if you want to heat a garage or outdoor spaces that are large and well ventilated. Gas heaters come in two types unvented for outdoor use and vented for indoor use. Unvented gas heaters should not be used indoors because of health related issues. Propane gas heaters are suited for outdoor use. On the other hand natural gas heaters could come in handy for heating a smaller area. Gas heaters could help when there is a power outage during peak winters. They are also not very expensive but at the same time may not be as energy efficient and environment friendly as electric heaters.
Which one to choose?
Both electric and gas room heaters have their own advantages and downsides and it all depends the end-use for which they are being purchased. If you are looking for heating systems for homes and rooms that are small in size, there is no doubt that electric heaters are the best choice. On the other hand, for larger space and for outdoor heating purposes, gas heaters are always a much better option compared to electric heaters. Electric heaters are easy to maintain and easy to install.
