What is a project
Business enterprise is a unique entity where outcome is based on integration of various functions in each environment. Every function has its own time plan and deadline by which it must be performed. The functions or tasks are performed by teams or group of individuals who are set to perform that task and their performance is measured against the specified norms. These norms are set to achieve the goals of business enterprise or entity within a complete task which is referred to as a project the success of which depends upon proper coordination of tasks performed by various teams as components of the project.

A project proceeds in transitional phases or stages and there are four main stages for successful performance of a project.
• Project goals and performance objectives are identified and documented well before start of the project and this is the initiation stage.
• Once the project goals are defined, planning is done in the second stage to decide the way it has to be executed by using various work packages.
• Third stage is related to performance or execution of a project in which performance of selected work packages, technical facets, project management and quality control are measured.
