A Brazilian butt lift (BBL) is a medical procedure that deals with fat transfer. The fat is transferred into the buttocks after getting removed from the hips, lower back, abdomen or thighs through liposuction. Here is the procedure for you to know about each step taken during the performance of the surgery:

Outlining of area for the fat transfer

While using a surgical marker, the area is marked where the excessive fat is to be transferred. Other than this, the surgeon also outlines sites from where the fat is to be removed.

Administration of Anesthesia`

To offer you comfort and ease during the Brazilian butt lift procedure, the surgeon administers the anesthesia. The types of anesthesia involve general anesthesia and local anesthesia. However, there are possibilities of BBL being done without the utilization of general anesthesia.

Preparation of Site and the Buttocks for Surgery

The area involved in removing excess fat through liposuction is known as the harvest location. While cleaning with a block of antibacterial soap, disinfection of the buttocks and the harvest location is done. Such disinfection is done to reduce the possibilities of occurring of infection around these sites.

Injection of Tumescent Fluid into the Harvest and Donor Sites

At the harvest location, the incisions are created to let both cannulas enter. A cannula in liposuction is injected into an area for delivering tumescent fluid and suctioning of fat. In contrast, infiltration cannula specializes in the injection of that fluid into your fat. Therefore, to make the injection endurable, a lesser amount of fluid is injected in the recipient sites.

Fat Transfer from the Doner Site

As fat tends to persist in these areas even with weight loss, the abdomen and the flanks are considered common sites to obtain fat. A container is used to suction the fat which is collected for the transfer into buttocks. Furthermore, this container is also used to keep fat interacting with air, prevent the fat from contamination and reduce infection threats.  

Fat Transfer to the Buttocks

After the collection of fat into the container, fat transfer is done into a large syringe. It can be separated from the fluid that the body could not absorb when the fluid is discarded. A special cannula is attached at the end of these syringes for the precise injection of fat. Now, the fat is injected to the buttocks.

Closure of Incisions with Sutures

Like fishing line, a suture is a thread used for sewing two edges for incision and cut. These are used to close the incisions so that the fat does not extrude from the buttocks. Hence, the difference can be easily observed from before and after the Brazilian butt lift.
