How to mix a drum sound begins by first knowing what a drum is and knowing the various parts that produce a sound, is important in knowing the type of sound the drum would produce. Examples of these parts are the membrane, also known as the drum head this is the part that receives an impact from the player’s. hands or stick also known as percussion mallet to give a sound. The part of a drum that is tuned to have a lower pitch than the top membrane is the resonance head which is usually on the bottom side of the drum. The drum has a shell that holds all these parts together. Other ways have been used to make the drums have sound, such as thumb roll. How to mix a drum sound is highly dependent on how the sound of the drum was recorded and how the drum was played. Drums can be played singularly or in addition to other parts like cymbals or in a set.
Several things affect the way a drum can sound, these factors include the shape of the drum, its construction, the type of materials it is made of, and how tight the drumheads are; with lower tension comes the lower sound, with higher tension comes higher sound. Also, the type of shell a drum has can affect the vibration resonance in the drum shell. The part of the drum can be used to influence the sound of the drum.in knowing how to mix a drum sound, it is important to note that, the shells that are thicker give off the high sounding volume, while thinner shells give a low sounding pitch. Fine-tuning the drum is very important, to ensure the right sound is produced.  After this, it is necessary to ensure that the phase relationships that exist between several tracks are intact. If tracks are misplaced, it can cause the phase to get canceled.
