A headlight is the source of road illumination attached in front of a vehicle. It is also called as Headlamp. Due to rising deaths and fatalities during night times as compare to daytimes, headlights are constantly improving. It is a necessity acc. to government laws to equip every vehicle with a headlight. The headlamps, found on the earliest vehicles were fuelled by oil and Acetylene. Technology moved forward and electric lights came into the picture. After that latest technologies include Halo Headlights, High-Intensity Discharge Lamps (HID), and Light Emitting Diodes (LED).
Halogen Headlights
It is an incandescent headlight filled with tungsten, inert gases and halogens like bromine and iodine. Other gases used are nitrogen and argon. This halogen gas sticks on the tungsten and makes it last longer. Due to heat, the tungsten starts to get hot and starts emitting light. This is the reason they are hot.
Halo Headlights has been ruling the headlight world since the 1960s up to now. It is the most common type of headlight used in the vehicles. Approximately 80% of the vehicles use halogen powered headlights. Halogen bulbs are very low cost and low maintenance which is why they are so commonly used. Under halogen headlamps, there are 2 classifications i.e. - The Standard and Projector. The standard forward-facing bulb is used for reflective light which disperses more. The projector is used wherever there is a need for more focused light.
Angel Eye Headlights
These are the upgraded halogen headlights which are gaining the most popularity. Top car makers like BMW have introduced and are using the angel eyes for a long time. The Holden Ve series 1 headlights are the projector type headlights which increase visibility and look beautiful too. These bulbs use the latest LED technology to power the bulbs. These were born around 2004 and already gained huge popularity. These are much more efficient and brighter than halogen bulbs. When halogen bulbs draw around 60 watts, LEDs draw about 15 watts.
